Transportation Information

AIR

The Saint-Exupéry International Airport is located 20 km (12 mi) east of Lyon and has an in-house train station Gare de Lyon Saint Exupéry.

Airport shuttle:

  • Runs every 15 minutes from 06.00am to 09.00pm and every 30 minutes from 05.00am to 06.00 am and from 09.00pm to 12.00am
  • Full length trip is approximately 30 minutes long
  • One way adult tickets cost 13 Euros and round trip adult tickets cost 23 Euros
  • Three main shuttle stops: Lyon Part-Dieu, Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie et Meyzieu Z.I

RAIL

There are two main train stations in Lyon: Lyon Part-Dieu and Lyon Perrache.

In practice most trains serve both stations, including TGV fast-trains which connect Lyon to Lille, Paris, Brussels, Marseille and Montpellier. Both train stations also serve as important public transportation hubs with easy access to buses, tramways and subway trains which cover the entire urban area.

ROAD

Lyon is located at the heart of a dense road network and at the crossroad of several main highways: A6 (to Paris), A7 (to Marseille), A42 (to Geneva), A43 (to Grenoble) and A46.

The Euroline bus services also run through the city with a bus terminal located at Lyon Perrache train station.

Fares vary depending on the company (approximately 50 Euros to get from the city center to the airport).

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

The public transportation system in Lyon, TCL (“Transports en Commun Lyonnais”), includes buses, subway trains, and tramways.

  • One way tickets cost 1.60 Euros and are valid for one hour on any bus, metro or tramway in the city.
  • Public transportation runs from 05.00am to 12.00am.

The Velo’v network offers a bicycle hire service where bicycles can be rented and dropped off at any of the 340 stations located across the city:

  • The first 30 minutes of rental are free and fees then vary from 1 Euro to 2 Euros per hour
  • Payments must be made by credit card
